Docks Art Fair’s third edition will be happening at the same time as the Lyon’s Biennial, starting this edition on September 13th.
Credit must be given to this event which, with its exceptional program that designates the importance of contemporary artists’ solo exhibitions, it has already placed itself on the worldwide art landscape. Running until September 18th, about forty galleries from all corners of the world will offer an exhibition specialised on one of their artists and will greet professional form the art business as well as collectors from all over the globe.
The Dock Art Fair was first introduced to the market in 2007 from an idea of gallery owners Olivier and Patricia Houg. Their objective being the one to propose a monographic image of art and the new artists’ generation. The fact of exhibiting one artist only gives to the individual artist an opportunity to gain a greatly larger access and visibility from the gallery. It is definitely a first that a contemporary art fair permits to the public to envisage the complete work of every artist, as well as realize the crucial function which engages both curators and galleries.
The board of selection for 2011 characterizes the vigour of the fair, as well as its global skills and distinctive genre.
It is characterised by Isabelle Bertolotti, exhibition curator from France; Georgina Adam, chief editor of The Art Newspaper in the UK;; Patricia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, president of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Italy; Barbara Polla, gallerist at Analix Forever Gallery in Switzerland; Pascal Neveux, director of the FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in France and Richard Leydier, chief editor of Artpress magazine in France .
For this edition, the major endeavour is to mature the influence of the new and significant global art fair. Consequently, the entrance of a private sponsor will improve this third edition: CIC Lyonnaise de Banque. The company Montblanc carries on teaming up with the fair via the Montblanc/DocksArtFair award, which will recompense equally a gallery and an artist for their effort. Montblanc is worldly recognized for its involvement with the contemporary arts, remarkably photography and painting.
Os of the fair’s inventors, Patricia and Olivier Houg inaugurated their contemporary art gallery in the city of Lyon back in 1997. They embody a whole generation of promising international artists: they also are greatly engaged with numerous reliable art events such as the Show Off, the Fiac, Solo Project in Basel and the Arco Madrid.
Docks Art Fair is sustained by the municipal public group Grand Lyon, together with the Rhônes Alpes region. The fair will have its location in the heart of the town of Lyon, at 45 quai Rambaud.
