Art for Africa™ Auction, is a one-of-a-kind charity auction presenting leading American, African-American and African contemporary artists and will take place, for the second time at Sotheby’s New York on Thursday, November 17th, 2011.
Among the artists who have donated to the cause are Peter Beard, Alex Katz, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Mary Sibande, Hunt Slonem, Nick Cave, Mickalene Thomas, E.V. Day, Jeff Sonhouse, Beezy Bailey and Sue Williamson. The proceeds will nourish Africa Foundation which supports orphaned children of rural South and Eastern Africa and aims to especially improve the lives of women and families.
The first sale in 2009 was highly successful in London, raising $750,000. It saw vivacious enthusiasm from collectors for works by some of the emerging stars of African and International Contemporary Art.
This much anticipated and unique auction, in accordance with philanthropy efforts, aim to improve the lives of people in need while raising the profile of contemporary artists, from both the United States and Africa.
