The National Endowment for the Arts has recently pledged to fund the development of computer games as artwork with the launch of the exhibition, 2Player
at the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery of Leicester, running July 16th to September 5th, 2011.
The show reveals five game designers from Europe and the States. What is the place of gaming graphics in contemporary art?
Mark Essen has mad major gallery showings at New Museum in New York and perennial technology hub FACT in Liverpool. Paolo Perdicini has made his mark on the art scene with exhibitions at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens and the Museu de Arte Moderna in Rio de Janeiro.
Other notable artists include, Eric Svendang who transforms the iPad into an animated board game, Pixel Jam develops on a style reminiscent of an old-school 8-bit platform, and Jason Rohrer reveals sculptures within the video game as art.
